STORYLINE:

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday discussed in Cairo the regional situation and efforts to coordinate positions, particularly regarding the developments in Palestine.

The two leaders underscored the imperative of an immediate and urgent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and of providing unconditional access to desperately needed humanitarian aid and relief to the strip, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

They reiterated categorical rejection of the liquidation of the Palestinian issues, the forced displacement of the Palestinians, and any attempts to undermine the two-state solution.

Their talks also touched upon the developments in Syria, reiterating the need to support the state, notably in light of Egypt and Jordan's membership in the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria, the statement added.

They affirmed the significance of preserving Syria's unity, security, and territorial integrity and commencing a comprehensive and inclusive political process encompassing all the segments of the Syrian people.

The two leaders also addressed the situation in Lebanon and emphasized the necessity of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, confirming their commitment to the security, sovereignty, and stability of Lebanon.

Sisi and King Abdullah II called on all parties to take responsibility to end the ongoing escalation in the region.

Established by an Arab League resolution, the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria includes Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Arab League.
