United States - December 17, 2024 A major water main break caused chaos in the Bronx on Monday night, flooding Webster Avenue with water and stranding drivers. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. between East 201st Street and Moshulu Parkway South in the Bedford Park neighborhood. Firefighters were seen wading through waist-deep water, helping stranded drivers to safety. Despite efforts to open drains for relief, the floodwaters continued to surge, creating significant traffic delays and forcing authorities to urge the public to avoid the area. The water main break also left residents without water in their homes. The Department of Environmental Protection arrived on the scene to assess the damage and isolate the source of the break. In response to the flooding, the NYPD enforced street closures along Webster Avenue from East 204th Street to Bedford Park Boulevard.
