Tehran, Iran - December 17, 2024 Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Tuesday that Iran hopes for a peaceful transition in Syria, ultimately leading to the establishment of an inclusive government representing all Syrians. Regarding the reopening of the Iran's embassy in Syria, Baghaei said certain requirements have to be met for the reopening, including ensuring the security of the diplomatic mission and its staff. Baghaei also condemned Israel for taking advantage of the chaotic situation in Syria to launch military operations against the country. He emphasized that Iran will mobilize international community to put an end to Israel's acts of aggression, and its armed forces will spare no effort in defending their country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. A militant alliance led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham waged a major military operation from northern Syria on Nov. 27, sweeping southward through government-held areas and capturing Damascus within 12 days. Following the offensive, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government collapsed. Al-Assad resigned and arrived in Russia for asylum. Shotlist: Tehran, Iran - Dec 17, 2024: 1.
