A British radio DJ was rescued from the Thames after jumping into the water to save a dog.

Capital Breakfast host Jordan North was rescued by Chiswick Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) after leaping into the cold river to help a struggling Labrador near Hammersmith Bridge on December 16.

Footage shows authorities reuniting with the canine saviour on Monday evening.

Reports said Jordan was out for a run around 5:05 pm when he stepped off a pontoon into the cold water to assist the distressed pooch. A concerned local raised the alarm, prompting the RNLI crew, who were already on exercise, to arrive within three minutes.

The former 'I'm A Celebrity' contestant was found sitting on a float lift with the dog on his lap as onlookers used phone torches to guide the rescuers.

Jordan said on Capital Breakfast: 'A big thank you and a massive shout out to RNLI Chiswick who came and rescued me. I was getting a bit panicky... The real heroes here are the RNLI.'

Gavin Simmons, Thames Commander, praised his team and reminded the public to always call 999 for the Coastguard instead of attempting rescues themselves.

He added: 'We're happy we could help Jordan and the dog safely back to dry land.'

The RNLI saves lives at sea through its 24-hour search and rescue services around the UK and Ireland. With 238 lifeboat stations and over 240 lifeguard units across the UK and the Channel Islands, its volunteers are dedicated to maritime safety.
