United Kingdom - December 13, 2024 The bravery of two Metropolitan Police officers and members of the public is being hailed after they rescued residents from a burning building on Willesden High Street, NW10, on Friday, December 13. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1:10 p.m. as smoke billowed from windows of the three-storey building. Recognising the urgent danger, two officers, supported by members of the public, entered the building to evacuate residents trapped inside a first-floor flat. Amid the chaos, a man was discovered trapped in an upstairs flat. With quick thinking, a ladder from a courtyard was used to break a window, allowing the man to escape safely. Though no serious injuries were reported, three residents and one officer, in his 20s, were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. One officer remains in care but is expected to make a full recovery. Commander Paul Trevers praised the courage displayed, saying, “The actions of these officers exemplify the bravery, tenacity, and commitment to public safety that runs through the core of the Met Police.” He also commended the members of the public who risked their own safety, stating, “Their courage alongside our officers helped save lives.” The heroic efforts have left a community grateful and a city proud.
