This is the dramatic moment the Coast Guard rescued a whale trapped in an anchorage line in Iceland.

The crew from the Icelandic Coast Guard vessel Por saved the hapless creature stuck in a rope near Vioey on December 13.

The officers received a report of the entangled whale, prompting the Coast Guard to dispatch a specialised operations team to assess the situation late in the evening.

Due to harsh weather conditions and darkness, they were unable to free the animal and decided to continue the rescue operation the next day.

During the rescue mission, five rescuers used buoys, ropes, and hooks to carefully untangle the animal, which remained firmly trapped in the line.

After a laborious effort, they managed to cut the rope, allowing the animal to swim away freely.

Local media reported that the whale appeared relieved after enduring the ordeal throughout the night and day.
