Heartwarming footage has emerged from China of a cat being rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in a tree for five days.

The video, captured in Shenyang, Liaoning Province last Monday, shows the cat, which appears to be closing its eyes because it's scared, stuck up a seven-metre-high tree.

A firefighter then climbs up and tries to use a stick to drive the cat down, but it climbs up higher.

Eventually, the rescuers use a chainsaw to the cut the branch allowing the cat to jump onto a nearby roof.

Then, firefighters cut down a branch of the tree gradually to make the cat get closer to a roof and jumps on it.

According to local news, the cat was rescued by firefighters in half an hour.
