STORYLINE:

Austria's inflation rate stood at 1.9 percent in November, remaining below the 2-percent medium-term inflation target set by the European Central Bank (ECB) for the third consecutive month, Statistics Austria said on Wednesday.

Tobias Thomas, director-general of Statistics Austria, said in a statement that falling household energy prices have continued to play the most significant role in dampening inflation.

However, Thomas noted that prices in restaurants have continued to rise at a higher rate than general inflation in November, up 6 percent from the same month last year.

High inflation has plagued Austria over the past few years, with the country's inflation rate ranking among the highest in the eurozone. In November, the Alpine country's inflation rate was lower than that of the eurozone, which stood at 2.2 percent, according to Eurostat.
