A resident was terrified when he saw mystery drones flying overhead in Pennsylvania.

Footage captured by Robert l Kline Jr shows the bright specks glowing against the night sky in York County.

The motorist zoomed in on his phone's camera, which showed the aerial vehicle was not an aeroplane but triangular-shaped with an illuminated front and blinking lights at the back.

The resident said he noticed three flying above homes.

He says in the video: 'They are not high. Maybe a couple of hundred feet.

'Actually a bunch of them, but one of them is staying lit. But the rest of them, they keep going invisible.'

The sightings follow weeks of reports across New Jersey and other states since mid-November of dozens of bizarre drones spotted in the sky.

Flights near sensitive areas, including Picatinny Arsenal and President-elect Donald Trump's Bedminster golf course, led to temporary FAA flight restrictions.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed the sightings included drones and manned aircraft but assured the public there was 'no evidence of foreign involvement or threat'.

Officials said they remain alert but some lawmakers have criticised the government's slow response and lack of transparency.

Some have accused the government of covering up military surveillance or alien interference.
