The Avon Lake Power Plant in Ohio was demolished in a final implosion, completing a process that began earlier this year.

Dramatic footage shows the controlled collapse on December 19, following an initial detonation in July.

Authorities advised residents to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and run HVAC systems with filters to maintain air quality and protect health during the demolition of the remaining five structures.

Multiple police and fire agencies were on-site to ensure safety, while some onlookers gathered nearby for tailgating during the event.

The coal-fired facility, which opened in 1926, provided electricity to about 800,000 homes at its peak capacity, officials said.
