Delhi, India - December 18, 2024 On December 18th, X user Sumit Dookia posted a video of the season's first dense fog blanketing the capital, reducing visibility to below 50 metres. “Even traffic signal lights are not visible,” Dookia noted, sharing footage recorded at 7:25 AM. The fog came as Delhi retained its status as India’s most polluted city for the fifth consecutive day. Official data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an alarming overall air quality index (AQI) of 433 in the “severe” category as of 9 a.m. on Friday, December 20th. The toxic haze, combined with the thick fog, has exacerbated environmental concerns, pushing residents to face dangerous pollution levels and disrupted visibility across the capital.
