STORYLINE:
Five athletes were injured Saturday when an avalanche hit a ski resort in Türkiye's eastern province of Erzurum, the nation's health ministry has announced.
One of the injured is in critical condition, the ministry said via its social media account.
Erzurum Governor Mustafa Ciftci said that the incident occurred at Palandoken Ski Resort at 10:22 a.m. local time (0722 GMT), when members of the National Judo Team were hiking in an area used for extreme sports.
Search and rescue teams were dispatched to the area along with medical units. These teams have taken measures to ensure safety amid the possibility of further avalanches, local broadcaster NTV reported.
