Mesmerizing chain fountain amazes in China
On November 29, 2024, in Liaoning, located in northeastern China, a video captured a fascinating demonstration on a pedestrian bridge. A man placed a plastic bottle filled with a long metal bead chain on the bridge and threw one end of the chain over the edge.
As the chain unraveled, a surprising phenomenon occurred—the middle section of the chain rose higher and higher as it fell, creating a mesmerizing arc. The filmer marveled at the spectacle, jokingly wondering if an infinitely long chain could escape the solar system.
Chinese netizens explained the science behind the "chain fountain," noting that the gravitational potential energy of the falling chain generates upward tension on the remaining chain, causing it to rise.
