On December 20 in Yueyang, Hunan, a large section of tiles suddenly fell from a high-rise building, narrowly missing a mother and child passing by, as well as a vendor below. The shocking incident was captured by a nearby surveillance camera.

Local shop owners suggested that the tile detachment might have been caused by thermal expansion and contraction due to recent significant temperature fluctuations. These changes could have created stress in the building’s exterior tiles, eventually leading to their collapse. Others speculated that the tiles fell due to improper installation or the building’s aging and lack of maintenance.

To prevent similar incidents, nearby shop owners have proactively removed all tiles from their walls. Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
