Magdeburg, Germany - December 23, 2024 Taleb A., as the suspect arrested for the mass attack that left five dead and 200 injured on Friday in the German city of Magdeburg has been identified by the press, faces charges of murder and attempted murder, German police reported on Sunday (22), after the man, 50 years old and of Saudi origin, was taken into custody. A magistrate ordered the preventive detention of the man, who the authorities have not identified in accordance with local privacy laws, after the Prosecutor's Office filed five charges for murder, and several charges for attempted murder and serious injuries, according to the statement released by the police. The deceased were a 9-year-old boy and four women aged 45, 52, 67 and 75. The suspect was presented before a judge on Saturday night. Initial investigations suggest he acted alone and used unobstructed emergency lanes - German Christmas markets are usually protected by barriers to prevent vehicles from entering -, running over dozens of people at high speed before being arrested.
