Dramatic House fire Shamokin, Pennsylvania
At 1320 hours on December 23, 2024, a first alarm was struck for East Hemlock in Shamokin, where a working fire was rapidly confirmed with visible flames emanating from the upper floors of the structure. Crews successfully controlled the blaze within approximately 30 minutes, despite icy road conditions. The majority of the damage was confined to the original structure, which was unoccupied and under construction. Neighboring properties sustained minor smoke and water damage but were largely preserved thanks to the responders' efforts. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is currently under investigation by a fire marshal. Several responders fell and slid due to icy conditions during the blaze but no serious injuries were reported.
Battalion chief: Quick, aggressive attack brought Hemlock Street fire under control in 30 minutes
Northumberland County Communications Center dispatched a working building fire at 911 East Hemlock Street, Shamokin, Pa. The first in units arrived with fire blowing out the 2nd division and the roof.
An interior attack brought this blaze under control in a little more than 30 minutes.
Wit fire showing Battalion Fire Chief Bruce Rogers called for an interior attack and brought this blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
With temperatures hovering around 42 F Fire fighters had to deal with icy conditions with numerous FF falling on the ice.
The Shamokin Street department was dispatched to deal with the ice.
Chief Rogers confirmed this structure was marked with a red X to indicate this property was not to be entered due to conditions within the structure. This property was recently purchase for $5,000 and was in the process of being renovate and brought up to code.
Shamokin Bureau Fire Chief Ken Pilkus, stated that the fire started on the house’s first floor and spread up to the second floor and attic.
Fire Marshal Raymond Siko II is heading an investigation to determine the fire’s nature and cause.
