Huge wild python tangled in net during floods is carried to safety
This is the moment a huge wild python found tangled in a net was carried to safety by wildlife rescuers in Thailand.
The 20ft snake was caught in the net during heavy rains that battered Samut Songkhram province.
Homeowner Kraisorn Silueang, 53, called rescue officers after noting the massive serpent struggling in his swamped backyard on December 17.
Footage shows the team untangling the serpent from the net as it thrashed violently in the water. They had to call reinforcements due to its sheer size.
After 20 minutes, the officers and villagers freed the snake and carried it to the road to take measurements. They said it weighed 154 lbs (around 70kgs) and measured almost 20ft (6m).
Kraisorn said: 'I had installed a net around my house since small snakes kept entering my property.
'On the day the python was found, there was a high tide that flooded my yard. I heard something splashing loudly and I thought it was a monitor lizard at first.
'I sent my son to check and it turned out to be a huge python instead. It was so large I knew we couldn't handle it by ourselves.'
The python was later handed over to wildlife officials.
The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
