A snow plough train cleared tracks in Japan.

Footage shows the locomotor removing accumulated snow on the railway road at Kashiwa-no Koukoumae Station in Hirakawa, Aomori Prefecture on December 23.

The iconic Russell cars, which are over a century old, are being used to restore suspended train services amidst heavy snowfall blanketing the region.

The country's winter season begins in mid-December and typically lasts for three months, although it can sometimes continue into early April.

The amount of snowfall varies significantly across the country with mountainous regions near the coast and in the north experience the heaviest snowfall.

In contrast, southern and eastern parts of Japan receive much less snow, while some areas, such as Okinawa, remain snow-free throughout the year.
