China - December 24, 2024 China's 2024 grain output tops record 700 million tons (Voice_over) China's grain production this year has topped 700 million tons, a new high for the country, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. Experts credit several reasons for the record-breaking figure like the country’s commitment to developing and improving soil conditions, water conservation efforts, technology and farm management. Another reason: seed variety. In the past 10 years, the country has developed hundreds of seeds that have been adapted to the regions where they’re grown, which contributed to this year’s increased grain production by about 45 percent. Favorable policies for farmers also played a significant role in the grain output growth, with the country providing full cost insurance and planting income insurance for growers of rice, corn and wheat. And finally, the country is cultivating new types of agribusiness, with nearly four million family farms and over 2.2 million farmers' cooperatives. [Restriction: No access Chinese mainland]
