Ávila‎, Spain - December 24, 2024 Three mountain climbers were rescued from the treacherous slopes of Pico Almanzor on Saturday afternoon, with one woman, aged 26, requiring medical attention after suffering a potential head injury. The Guardia Civil’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) were alerted around 3:00 PM after a call reported the accident, which left the woman unable to continue her climb. Due to the severity of the situation, the Guardia Civil's Helicopter Unit from Torrejón de Ardoz was dispatched to assist. Despite difficult weather conditions and strong winds, a rescue operation was launched, involving three helicopter cycles. One of the mountain specialists descended to assess the woman, who was found to be suffering from head trauma and dizziness. She was immobilized and secured before being airlifted to safety. The two other climbers, unable to continue due to icy conditions, were also rescued and evacuated to the Hoyos del Espino heliport, where they received further medical evaluation.
