Four passengers were killed, including a child, and 24 were injured when a bus plunged into a ravine in India.

The Greyhound Travels operated vehicle was on its way from Bhimtal to Haldwani when it veered off the narrow mountain road and fell 300ft (91m) below in Uttarakhand on December 25.

Footage shows locals helping to pull a rope and rescue hurt passengers climbing the steep face of a cliff.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescue team transported those injured to a community hospital in Bhimtal, while those who were in critical condition were transferred to Sushila Tiwari Medical College in Haldwani.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said: 'Upon assessing the situation, we directed officers to provide assistance. We requested a team of highly-skilled medics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences to be dispatched.'

The chief minister also confirmed four people were killed.

He added: 'It is heartbreaking to learn that four persons lost their lives in the tragic bus accident that occurred close to Bhimtal. I ask God to give the grieving family the fortitude to deal with the loss.'
