This is the terrifying moment a huge python was yanked out of a kitchen drain in Indonesia.

Housewife Berliana was doing laundry when she noticed the water pooling around the drain at her home in Sregan Regency in Central Java on December 19.

She looked inside to find the blockage - only to notice the 10ft snake staring back at her with its mouth open. The terrified resident called a wildlife rescue team to dispatch the python.

Footage shows the officers yanking the reptile from the small hole. They hauled it out of the house limp but alive.

Janu Wahyu Widodo, head of snake catching team Exalos Indonesia, said: 'The incident happened early in the morning. Seeing the python, the homeowner reported it to the Karangmalang Police, then it was forwarded to the local disaster response unit (BPBD) that includes our members.

'When the BPBD and our members went to the house, the snake had been doused with hot water. Maybe the intention was for it to come out of the drain. So the snake was weak but not dead.'

Janu added that though pythons were not venomous, they are still dangerous and can eat even humans.

Shocked housewife Berliana said she did not know where the python had come from.

She added: 'The drain was clogged all of a sudden while I was doing the laundry. I thought there was a sock stuck inside or something, but when I looked inside, there was something moving continuously and its mouth was open. It refused to come out. I was scared, really scared.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
