On December 22, multiple rats were spotted scurrying around the cafeteria at Peking University Affiliated Primary School in Haikou, Hainan. Concerned parents also raised suspicions about possible violations in the use of seasoning and cooking oil by the cafeteria.

In response, the Haikou Market Supervision Administration and Education Bureau conducted an immediate investigation. While the use of seasonings and cooking oil was found to comply with national food safety standards, significant gaps in the cafeteria's pest control measures allowed the rats to infiltrate.

By December 24, authorities issued a corrective notice and launched a formal investigation. The cafeteria was ordered to cease operations immediately and undertake comprehensive pest control and sanitation measures. Food service will only resume after meeting stringent rectification standards.

This incident underscores the importance of strict food safety practices in schools to protect students’ health and well-being.
