The man arrested over the Christmas Day double murder may have flipped after a row with his "cross dressing son", it has been claimed."

Two women, aged 38 and 24, were pronounced dead at the scene after the knife horror in a block of flats in Milton Keynes, Bucks.

A teenage boy and a man in his late 20s were also injured and a dog was killed in the attack in Bletchley.

Today (Fri) detectives are questioning a 49-year-old man from the city on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

A woman who knows the suspect said one of the males injured is the man's son who had several fingers hacked off in the attack.

She said the suspect was "well known in the area" and was "unstable"."

The woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "He has medical problems – he's got kidney problems and needs to be on dialysis every day. "

"I believe one of the people in the flat to be his son. Apparently his son is gay and cross dresses. We think the person who has lost his fingers is possibly his son."

"One of the deceased is his partner – we think the other might be her daughter. He was in a relationship at the time, but I don't know for how long."

"He has some sort of underlying mental health problem but I think it's been self-diagnosed. He has a sister, but his mum has died."

"I don't know much about him directly before the murder – whether he was annoyed about his son being a cross dresser, or whether he'd been taking drugs that night. "

"But with people with mental health issues like that, sometimes it only takes one snigger to set them off. It's shocking – my family live in the area and it's shocking."

Thames Valley Police said officers were called to a block of apartments in Santa Cruz Avenue, Bletchley, at around 6.36pm after reports of a stabbing.

A dog was also injured in the incident and taken to vets but died of its injuries.

Photos taken at the scene show forensic officers combing the area for clues two days on from the incident.

The woman added: "We've heard that him [the suspect] and his girlfriend were seen at the local Spoons earlier. "

"The younger woman, I think is a neighbour. I've spoken to my nephew and he lives closer and says that's what he's hearing."

Thames Valley Police have not issued any further update since the arrest.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin said the force was not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and the victims were known to the suspect.

He said: "We have launched a double murder investigation, which may be concerning to the wider public."

"However, we have made an arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and the parties are known to each other."

"Members of the public will see a large police presence in the area while our investigation takes place. "

"If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to approach our officers and they will do their best to help."
