India's foreign exchange (forex) reserves dropped by 8.478 billion U.S. dollars to 644.391 billion dollars during the week ended on Dec. 20, according to the weekly data released by the country's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on Friday.
This was the third consecutive week when India's forex reserves had declined. A decrease of 1.988 billion dollars was logged in the previous week.
The forex reserves' biggest component, foreign currency assets, fell by 6.014 billion dollars to 556.562 billion dollars, showed the RBI data.
The gold reserves also decreased by 2.330 billion dollars to 65.726 billion dollars, even as the special drawing rights declined by 112 million dollars to 17.885 billion dollars.
