Mechanics dragged a huge monitor lizard from a tyre shop's toilet using a floor wiper.

Footage shows the two workers rushing out of the room together while pulling behind them a 5ft reptile in Surat Thani, Thailand.

The animal then scampered off to the front of the shop to escape while the employees looked for a place to hide.

Customer Thanapong Sommaloun said: 'I stopped by to use the restroom but there was an unexpected visitor.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
