STORYLINE:
At least two people died after multiple tornadoes and severe storms ripped through parts of the U.S. South on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
At least five confirmed tornadoes touched down around the Greater Houston metropolitan area, Texas, leaving one dead and six injured, according to local media reports.
In Alvin, Brazoria County, which is about 45 miles south of Houston, the Walt Disney Elementary School was heavily damaged. The school has about 439 students and is closed for winter break.
In Nachtez, Mississippi, a high school student died and two others were injured after a tree fell on a home, local media reported.
As of 7:00 p.m. Central Time, more than 110,000 homes and businesses are without power across the South, according to PowerOutage.us.
