Floods swept away cars on Thailand's Full Moon Party island after heavy rain on December 28.

Dramatic footage shows a white pick-up truck owned by hotel worker Atsawin Busaba carried off by strong currents in Koh Phangan on Saturday.

Atsawin said: 'I saw my truck being swept away but couldn't do anything to stop it.'

Authorities confirmed the vehicle was empty when it was pulled into a canal.

Torrential rains caused widespread disruption across Surat Thani, including Koh Phangan, where government offices such as the district office, police station, and immigration office were surrounded by floodwaters.

The Meteorological Department warned on Saturday of strong winds and rain in southern provinces, including Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, and Narathiwat, until Monday.

The northeastern monsoon crossing the Gulf of Thailand produces waves of up to three metres, with larger swells expected during thunderstorms, prompting small boats to remain docked.
