Family of Thai woman, 26, killed in South Korea plane crash mourn relative
The family of a young Thai women killed in the South Korea plane crash were today mourning their relative,
Sirithon Chaue, 22, was among 179 passengers and crew killed when the Boeing 737 exploded in a fireball at the Muan International Airport in South Jeolla province on December 29.
The crash victim's relatives said today that she was fulfilling her lifelong dream of flying to the Far East and hoped to find a job there along with her mother.
Footage shows the family of Sirithon in their village in Chiang Rai close to the border with China today.
Sirithon 's uncle Theerapat Chaue, 37, said: 'My niece loved Korea. She was going to visit her mother, who has worked there for 10 years. She always dreamed of working there as an air hostess.
'Her mother was waiting at the airport and at first she thought the plane malfunction was minor. But then she saw the videos of what happened on social media. She was in shock and panic.
'The airline has offered to provide tickets for myself and my two brothers to go to South Korea for the funeral. But we may bring her ashes home.'
Emergency crews battled the fire at the aircraft, operated by Jeju Air, while pulling at least two survivors from the cabin.
Flight records show the plane operated by Jeju Air had departed from Bangkok, Thailand, at 2.29 am local time before attempting to land at 8.59am in South Korea on Sunday morning, December 29, in the region also known as Jeonnam.
Lee Jeong-hyun, the chief of Muan Fire Department, said that a bird strike or the bad weather could be the cause of the crash but an investigation is ongoing.
