Residents fled from buildings as a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the Philippines this morning.

Footage shows the panicked locals following the tremors in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, on December 30.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of 15 kilometres at around 10:56 am local time.

Damage and aftershocks were expected following the earthquake, officials said.
