This incident occurred when a herd of elephants that had come from the Thumbikulam reserve in the Korasagala area of Kekirawa to enter the Kalawa National Park got stuck in a lake in the middle of a paddy field for about two days. They were unable to move because the paddy field owners on both sides had chased away the wild elephants. Later, the Wildlife Office and the police worked together to drive away these wild elephants. This herd of elephants consists of about thirty wild elephants and we saw very small elephant calves drowning in the water for two days. This is a very rare and sad incident.
