Road becomes submerged on New Years Day in West Yorkshire,UK
A road in West Yorkshire, became submerged under water this morning (January 1st) Barnsdale Road that lies between Allerton Bywater & Castleford, flooded on new years day after heavy rain swept through the region. The River Aire nearby burst it's banks onto the flood plain, before flooding a nearby house and car sales. Some motorists became stranded, after attempting to drive through the deep waters. Pedestrians & cyclists also battled their way through, to avoid the lengthy diversions. The Highways agency eventually closed off the road with signs and barriers. Local volunteers in adapted 4x4 vehicles were on standby to assist anyone getting stuck.
