Jeep hits cyclist and drags bike along road causing trail of sparks
A jeep hit a cyclist and dragged his bike along the road, creating a trail of sparks.
Footage shows the speeding Bolero SUV leaving bright orange flares as it was driven along the Asmoli bypass on the Sambhal-Moradabad road in the Sadar Kotwali area, Uttar Pradesh, on December 29.
The filmer can be heard honking the horn while pursuing the vehicle.
Reports said the rider, Sukhveer, was killed after being dragged for at least 1 km, with his bike dragged for around 2 km. He was returning from his in-laws' house on Sunday evening when the incident occurred.
Police confirmed that the victim succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
Authorities are investigating the incident and searching for the suspect. A BJP party sticker was also visible on the SUV.
India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported each year.
The poor track record is blamed on unsafe road conditions, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and a lack of awareness about road safety.
