United States - December 26, 2024 A Christmas Day car theft suspect’s dramatic escape came to a halt on December 26 after a high-speed chase, a swampy foot pursuit, and an unlikely rescue from a tree. The suspect, wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle from Seattle, evaded capture in Olympia earlier this week, but the situation escalated when another car theft was reported. After a reckless driving spree, officers initiated a pursuit that ended near Marvin Road when the suspect crashed into a guardrail and fled on foot into a nearby swamp. Thanks to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, K9 Mac, and a new infrared-equipped drone, the suspect was located about 50 feet up in a tree, suspended over a cliff. After K9 Mac coaxed him down, authorities confirmed it was the same individual from the stolen car case. The suspect is now in custody facing charges of auto theft and eluding law enforcement.
