Argentina: Jorge Lanata, symbol of Argentine journalism, dies at 64
Buenos Aires, Argentina - June 16, 2016 Video: Class of Jorge Lanata at San Andres University in Buenos Aires. Jorge Lanata died this Monday after spending more than six months in the Italian Hospital and the Santa Catalina Neurorehabilitation Clinic. The journalist was under strict medical treatment to mitigate his respiratory failure. The host had been hospitalized on June 14 after suffering a decompensation while undergoing a lung tomography. For that reason, the doctors decided to keep him hospitalized. Nelson Castro, a journalist from the Todo Noticias channel, spoke of the health condition that the presenter had been going through recently: “I was in direct contact with the Italian Hospital and was aware of the progressive severity of Jorge's situation.” “When I asked him about his health, he told me that he was fine. The whole issue of Jorge's smoking was lethal, and it is something that he never had the attitude to change,” said the doctor. Castro was moved when he remembered that he was the one who made the last interview. “When you look at it in perspective, it breaks your heart, because of all the physical suffering Jorge suffered, because there is no idea of what he went through. I had very detailed knowledge and his suffering was enormous,” she said.
