Israel: Israeli forces strike Houthi targets in Yemen, killing 6
Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel - December 26, 2024 Israeli forces on Thursday launched a massive barrage of strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in the latest exchange of attacks between Israel and the Iranian-backed armed group, killing at least six people and wounding more than 40 others. The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement it had launched "intelligence-based" airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled military targets on Yemen's western coast and inland Yemen. Israel's warplanes hit Houthi-used infrastructure in the Sanaa International Airport, and the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations, both located in Houthi-controlled areas, as well as the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib on the western coast. Israeli sources told the Jerusalem Post that the attacks were carried out with the United States informed. The Israeli airstrikes came a day after Houthis launched multiple long-range rocket and drone attacks on the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Ashkelon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who observed the attacks said Israel is determined to eradicate the Houthis, which he called Iran's proxy. "We will persist until we get the job done," he said in a social media post. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz pledged to "hunt down all the Houthi leaders and strike them, just as we have done elsewhere" to "eliminate threats against Israel." In a statement aired by the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, the group vowed to respond to the Israeli assaults, saying it "will launch retaliatory long-range rocket attacks against Israeli cities." Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi said Israel launched attacks on civilian facilities in Yemen, but Israel's threats are evidence of failure against Yemen. The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have been launching regular rocket and drone attacks against Israel and disrupting "Israeli-linked" shipping in the Red Sea since November 2023 to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid their conflict with Israelis.
