Leopard sparks panic in residential area, rescued after three-hour operation
A leopard sent residents into panic after straying into their settlement and causing alarm, before being safely apprehended by the wildlife authorities.
The incident took place in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, northern India on December 31.
Visuals show the wild cat darting across an open field, while locals watched from their balconies with a mixture of curiosity and fear. The leopard then ventured into a residential area, passing close to residents and leaving them stunned in broad daylight. Subsequently, after its capture, it was seen confined in a cage, displaying fierce behavior and roaring from within.
Speaking to Newslions, Shankar Singh Shekhawat, the forest range officer at Alwar who led the rescue operation, stated that the leopard had not attacked anyone. The animal was spotted by locals around 9 am, and the forest department was quickly notified. Shekhawat noted that its movements had been observed around the RR College campus for approximately a month. Pugmarks were found near the staff room on the night of 29 December. On Tuesday morning, the leopard was seen leaving the campus and heading towards Company Bagh, about 1.5 km away, where it was tranquilized and safely relocated. It was rescued following a three-hour operation.
