This is the incredible moment a woman sunbathing by her rooftop pool was hit by a stray bullet that passed straight through her ponytail, leaving her unharmed.

Astonishing CCTV footage shows Rosangela Torres da Silva, 58, relaxing on a lounger atop her condominium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on December 29.

As she snoozes in the sun, the clip shows something passing through her hair behind her head, causing it to fly up.

Rosangela dabs at the back of her head with her hand, seemingly noticing blood from the bullet as the footage ends.

It later emerged that the bullet had grazed her head, believed to have been a stray long-distance gunshot that missed its target and ricocheted toward her.

Miraculously, by the time it reached Rosangela, almost all of the bullet's energy had been expended, allowing it to pass through her hair and barely touch her scalp, police said.

She was rushed to Lourenco Jorge City Hospital but was released the following day.

Local police chief Marcos Andre Buss said his officers are investigating the shooting.
