A three-year-old girl who was rescued from a borewell after 10 days has been pronounced dead at the hospital.

The youngster Chetna reportedly fell into a 700ft deep well on her father's property in Kotputli-Behror, Rajasthan, while playing with her sister on December 23, around 1:30 pm.

Following her rescue, Chetna was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where authorities declared her dead. Her body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

The retrieval operation, led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), involved constructing a parallel tunnel to reach the trapped girl.

Yogesh Meena, NDRF Rajasthan chief, stated that Chetna was retrieved unconscious and her body was found lifeless.

Collector Kalpana Agarwal said the rescue faced challenges due to the borewell tilting after a certain depth.

Specialists from Delhi and Jaipur Metro assisted in the complex operation.

On December 9, the rescue team also saved a five-year-old boy when he plunged down an uncovered 150ft borewell in the same state. Oxygen was supplied to him, and he was stuck for at least 19 hours.

In China, a six-year-old boy trapped in a 33ft deep well was rescued on November 30. Authorities said the boy had slipped into the narrow well, with a diameter of less than 30 centimetres, and became stuck at a depth of about 5 metres, wedged against the wall in Dashi Village, Xihu Town, Fuyang, Anhui. He was pulled to safety and is reportedly unharmed.
