STORYLINE:
The Picasso Museum in Barcelona, Spain ended 2024 with a record-breaking 1.13 million visits, driven by an increase in international tourists.
The museum reported an 8-percent increase in attendance compared to 2023, surpassing its previous pre-pandemic record set in 2019.
The most successful exhibitions were "Fernande Olivier, Pablo Picasso and His Friends" and "Miro-Picasso", which began in 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of Picasso's death.
Opened in 1963 at Picasso's request, the museum is one of Barcelona's key tourist attractions. Over half of the 1.13 million visitors were from abroad, with the largest groups coming from the United States, Italy, and France.
According to the Barcelona City Council, the city's museums attracted a total of 4.7 million visitors in 2024, most of whom were from abroad.
