Korean tourist attacks cars before being arrested in Thailand
A Korean tourist was arrested for allegedly attacking cars and stealing a pickup truck on a highway in Thailand.
Marcus Nils Jin Sub Blomberg, 29, of dual Korean and Swedish nationality, reportedly struck passing vehicles with a pole along Highway 36 in Chonburi province on January 1.
Thai motorist Chalom Saetang, 49, parked his vehicle on the roadside to try to control Marcus - only for the rampaging holidaymaker to carjack his pickup truck.
Dramatic dashcam footage shows the pair fighting in the middle of traffic, with Chalom wielding a long wooden pole as a weapon. The Korean man then hopped into the driver's seat and sped away in the pickup just as police were arriving.
Police Lieutenant Jiropas Nuansanthia, of the Traffic Police Division 1, said: 'The perpetrator used a pole to chase and hit people's cars at kilometre 24 on the motorway in the Lat Krabang section. There were many complaints, so we went there to investigate.
'When we arrived, we saw the suspect and another driver fighting over the pole. The suspect fled when he saw us. We let the pickup truck owner ride with us in the police car to chase him.'
Officers said chased Marcus for more than 75 miles before one of his tyres exploded.
The alleged carjacker crashed through guardrails and landed upside-down on the median strip. Despite being injured, he was said to have tried crawling away in a final attempt to escape.
Firefighters later arrived to put out the burning wheel fenders as Marcus was hauled to the Bang Sao Thong District Police Station to face legal action.
Officials said he will be charged with theft at night, property damage, and illegal entry into Thailand.
Police have not clarified the cause of his rampage.
