Philippines - January 01, 2025 January 1, 2025 – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in collaboration with the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Office of Civil Defense PH (OCD), launched joint aerial and sea surface search operations to locate a missing crew member of MV Jerlyn Khatness in the waters of Northern Samar. The search team scoured the waters off Lavezares, Biri, San Jose, Allen, and Victoria but reported negative results. Coastal barangays and local fishermen were urged to report any sightings to the nearest Coast Guard office. A minimal light fuel spill was observed near the suspected sunken area. The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group – Eastern Visayas assessed the oil sheen and determined it would likely evaporate naturally. The PCG, with BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408), continues search and retrieval efforts with partner agencies.
