This is the moment an elderly man narrowly escapes serious injury as the wall of his fishpond collapses under immense water pressure.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 25, as the man was reinforcing the pond wall in Zunyi, Guizhou, China.

The sudden collapse caused him to fall from a height of 6.5 ft (2m), with water surging into a nearby rice paddy.

Footage shows the powerful flow overwhelming the field, leaving the elderly man shaken but unharmed.

Onlookers later discovered that the crumpled barrier had been constructed without steel reinforcements, relying solely on wood, which buckled under the strain.

After the fall, the man stood silently near the ruined pond, staring at the damage as water gushed through the breached wall.

Neighbours described the scene as a stark reminder of the risks involved in maintenance work on such structures.

Although the man was unharmed, the flooding caused significant disruption to the neighbouring rice field.
