STORYLINE:

Türkiye's inflation rate eased for the seventh consecutive month in December, official data showed Friday.

Consumer prices rose by 44.3 percent year-on-year in December, down from 47.1 percent in November, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute.

As a result of an anti-inflation program launched 18 months ago, Türkiye's annual inflation rate has dropped from a peak at 75.4 percent in May.

The sharper-than-expected decline in inflation could create room for the central bank to consider further interest rate cuts.

In December, the bank lowered its benchmark policy rate by a higher-than-expected 250 basis points, bringing its lending rate to 47.5 percent, down from the 50 percent it has maintained since March.
