This is the hilarious moment a pet cat in China seemed to prefer English over Mandarin.

Pumpkin, the one-year-old Golden British Shorthair, only obeyed its owner's commands when they were in English.

Footage shows the woman telling the furry creature to sit down in her native speech. However, the feline stood still on a bedside table in Zhejiang, China, on November 9.

She then switched the command to English, prompting the cat to immediately sit down.

This behaviour caused its owner to burst into laughter.

The keeper said: 'This cat is really British. It only hears English and nothing else.'
