South Korean protesters are demanding the arrest of former president Yoon Suk Yeol over his attempt to declare martial law.

Footage shows hundreds of enraged activists marching toward the impeached leader's residence in Seoul on Friday, January 3.

The demonstration was organised under the banner of Citizen Power Direct Action, with participants calling for Yoon's arrest and labelling him an insurgent.

On December 3, protests erupted outside the National Assembly in Seoul following the president's controversial declaration of martial law. The ruling was later overturned.

Yoon is the first incumbent South Korean president to face arrest over his failed attempt to impose military rule.

He was removed from office by parliament and is now suspended from his duties while the Constitutional Court determines whether to reinstate or permanently dismiss him.
