Heroic motorist rescues father and son from burning overturned truck following crash in China
Around 4 p.m. on January 1, at a highway exit in Hui'an County, Quanzhou, Fujian, a sedan suddenly lost control while exiting the highway and preparing to turn right. The car crashed into the central barrier, flipped over, and landed on the ground. It then slid about 20 meters before catching fire. In this critical moment, Hu Junhui, the driver of a passing dump truck, selflessly stopped his vehicle to rescue the trapped father and son inside the burning car.
Eyewitnesses reported that the sedan caught fire quickly after flipping over, with flames spreading rapidly. Two passengers, an adult and a young child, were trapped inside. The child was crying and crawling within the car, making the situation extremely urgent.
At the time, Hu Junhui was driving his dump truck through the area. Upon seeing the accident, he immediately drove his truck past the traffic light, parked it, and ran toward the burning sedan. Approaching the car, he noticed that the rear window was shattered and the passengers were stuck inside. Without hesitation, he reached in and pulled the child out first. However, due to the cramped interior space caused by the overturned vehicle, the driver was struggling to move. Hu quickly retrieved a tow strap and used it to pull the driver out of the car.
Two bystanders passing by on electric scooters also stopped to assist Hu, helping him move the rescued father and son to a safe area.
After rescuing the trapped passengers, Hu did not immediately leave the scene. Noticing that the fire at the car’s front was intensifying, he returned to his truck to grab a fire extinguisher and attempted to put out the flames. Only after confirming that the fire was under control did he leave the scene in his dump truck.
It was later confirmed that the rescued passengers were a father and son. Although both were shaken by the incident, they were fortunately unharmed.
On January 5, the Hui'an County Public Security Bureau and the Righteousness and Courage Association awarded Hu Junhui a "Certificate of Bravery" in recognition of his heroic actions.
