Tibet earthquake leaves buildings damaged

Footage shows damaged buildings in Shigatse, Tibet, following an earthquake that struck the region this morning.

The magnitude 6.8 quake struck at 9:05 am local time (01:05 GMT) at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre. The United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake to be magnitude 7.1.

Local media reported that buildings in the village of Tonglai in Tingri County collapsed. The number of casualties was not immediately known.

Residents in Bihar, northern India, and in Kathmandu, Nepal, near Mount Everest, also reported tremors shaking buildings.
