Winter reed harvesting on Baiyangdian’s frozen waters in China
On December 29, 2024, in Baiyangdian, located in northern China’s Hebei province, a video captured a man skillfully harvesting reeds atop the frozen surface of the lake.
Dressed in black with a red vest, he used a specialized pushcart to trim the reeds standing above the ice.
The process was efficient, with the cart cleanly cutting the stalks in a single motion. These tall reeds had grown to their full height before the lake froze, making winter the perfect time to harvest them.
