Greek tourist attacks local in cannabis shop in Thailand
A Greek tourist allegedly attacked a local shop owner in Thailand after becoming frustrated when he could not open a sliding door at a cannabis shop.
Cheewan Chimplee, 50, a former assistant village headman, was beaten by a foreigner at his Smoke Weed shop in Chonburi on December 18, around 11:22 pm.
Reports suggest the tourist struggled with the door, which led to his frustration and caused him to scare a female employee inside.
CCTV footage shows the Greek visitor picking up a belt from the floor and hiding it before heading into the store. After Cheewan opened the door for him, the tourist suddenly headbutted him, shoved him onto a sofa, and began to strike him with the strap.
Cheewan managed to retreat to the back of the shop while the assailant left the scene.
The victim reported the incident to the authorities and urged them to press charges against the foreigner, reportedly staying at a nearby hotel.
Cheewan's medical check-up revealed ruptured capillaries in his right eye, a wounded nasal cavity, and bleeding lips, although stitches were not needed. He also suffered bruises and swelling on his face.
He said: 'I am a Thai person with honour and dignity on my own land, but I was assaulted by a foreigner who did not respect the law.
'If he is on the loose, he might attack another person.'
The police are currently investigating the incident.
